Torisho Sai
A moment to unwind in the city.
Located near Kyoto's Nijo Castle, Torisho Sai pairs counter-side charcoal grilling with thoughtful wine and sake selections across a multi-course poultry tasting menu.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Watching skewers take shape across the counter as the charcoal grill radiates heat gives yakitori its particular appeal. Situated along Kuromon-dori, just in from Oike-dori and not far from Nijo Castle, Torisho Sai offers that direct view of the chef at work within a calm, refined dining room.
The multi-course meal highlights the versatile qualities of poultry, bringing out juicy chicken thigh and breast with careful salting and heat management, alongside springy hearts and fragrant quail eggs. The sequence reaches beyond skewered cuts to incorporate duck breast wrapped in nori, a nourishing broth, and a finishing noodle dish, varying textures and temperatures to keep the progression engaging throughout.
Drink pairings are an integral part of the experience, curated to match individual courses with either wine or sake. The beverage cellar features carefully selected labels from Burgundy and Bordeaux, distinctive junmai sake such as Ubusuna and Tamagawa, and non-alcoholic options including a house-made craft cola.
Attentive service keeps the table comfortable from start to finish, from refreshing skewer plates to well-timed palate cleansers. Regular hours run Monday through Saturday from 18:00 to 23:00, with Sundays closed. As seating along the counter is limited, reserving ahead is recommended.
